Assessment

Assessment

At Forest Psychological Clinic we specialize in giving a range of assessments to children, teens, and to adults. For children, we can provide autism, ADHD, psychological, academic, and cognitive assessments using cutting edge assessment tools. For adults we specialize in giving gold-standard autism or ASD assessments. Please note, that we look at all overlapping factors to give you a clear picture on the presenting issue.

Here is a common list of questions families ask themselves before seeking a psychological evaluation

  • Am I or my child on the spectrum?
  • What is the nature of my or my child’s psychological difficulty?
  • Why can’t my child concentrate at school?
  • How can I improve my own and/or child's relationships with others?
  • How can myself and/or child be more organized and productive at school/work?
  • Why am I or my child not getting better in treatment?
  • Do I or my child require accommodations at school or work, such as extra time for exams?

Also, our clinicians are specialized and trained to answer the following diagnostic questions:

  • Do I or my child have attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder?
  • Do I or my child have a neurodevelopmental disorder such as Autism?
  • Do I or my child have a psychiatric disorder?
  • Does my child have a learning disability?
  • Does my child have an intellectual disability?
  • Is my child gifted?

Assessment procedure

Our evaluation service model allows for same day turn around on all evaluations. Below is an explanation on how your clinician can efficiently provide you clear answers on your and/or your child/teen’s issues, within such a short amount of time. On our first contact via phone consult, usually 15 minutes, the clinician will gather information to determine several issues:

1) Reason for evaluation.

2) Psychological measurements that will be required for the assessment, and

3) Any collateral sources needed to aid in of the assessment (teachers, care providers, other medical providers).

Once this information is gathered, and your clinician determines that an evaluation is needed, then they will take your contact information and schedule a date. (Please note, that our providers are out of network. Thus, this is an out-of-pocket expense. More information can be found under Financial Policies and Assessment Fees).

Following this consultation, your clinician will send you several documents (Notice of Practices, Clinic Policies, Releases of Information), along with several measurements they have chosen for you to complete prior to the appointment. On the day of the scheduled appointment all other pre-selected measurements will be administered, and a comprehensive clinical interview will be given. After all this information is synthesized: measurements sent to you, diagnostic tools used the day of your assessment, collateral information gathered from other providers and/or teachers in your life or your child/teen's life, and an extensive history; feedback will be given. Your feedback will be delivered in clear concise language that you can understand along with resources and a path forward for you or your child. Again, at Forest Psychological Clinic our clinicians strive to provide feedback on the same day of your appointment.

*Please note, if in the unlikely circumstance your clinician cannot complete the evaluation in the same day, need more information from a collateral source, or for an unforeseen difficulty in testing - then any incomplete testing and feedback will be rescheduled as soon as possible (usually within one week) at no extra cost to you.
