Group therapy is often a more affordable way to access effective treatment with a mental health professional. Additionally, the group setting offers unique opportunities not found in individual treatment, such as connecting with others who have shared your experiences and who you work closely with to practice coping, build relationship skills, and grow your social support network. Our clients often find a supportive, validating environment where they feel encouraged to make changes that feel most important to them. Many clients attend both individual and group therapy. Currently, our groups are co-facilitated by doctoral psychology student interns and licensed psychologists. To find out more about our groups and meet our students and team, please contact our clinic to set up a consultation.
CPT-C Group for Adults
In our Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) group, participants find a supportive space to delve into and process thoughts and emotions connected to trauma. The 14-week program offers 90-minute sessions aimed at empowering individuals to develop coping strategies and regain control over their lives. We also offer a CPT group that has been uniquely tailored for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
Integrated Trauma Group for Veterans
After leaving the military, veterans will sometimes experience difficulties transitioning back to civilian life, especially if there was exposure to combat while serving. Veterans may experience problems managing emotions, such as anger, and dealing with negative thoughts about themselves or their military experience. Our group utilizes skills from DBT, CBT, mindfulness, and other evidence-based practices to build coping skills to navigate these challenges. We also focus on fostering a safe environment for veterans to share and process their emotions with others who have shared their experience. This group follows an open-group model of 90-minute sessions.
DBT Skills Group for Teens
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment with skills that focus on mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. DBT can help teens struggling with frequent mood swings, depression, anxiety, family and peer conflict, angry outbursts, substance use, thoughts of self-harm, and a negative self-image. Through our group, teens learn and practice skills that they can use to cope with negative emotions, enhance mood, improve relationships, and engage in effective problem-solving and communication across weekly 90-minute sessions. In a world where so many things feel out of our control, learning DBT skills can help teens feel more in control of themselves and their actions and improve their self-esteem.
ADHD Skills Group for Adults
Folks with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) often experience significant difficulties with time management, organization, and planning. While medication can help, many find that adding cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and skills training is the key to developing supportive strategies and improving their confidence and focus. In our 12-week group of 90-minute sessions, clients will learn skills to tackle problems related to time management, organization, planning, and prioritizing. Additionally, our group format allows for peer support while clients face feelings of hopelessness, anxiety, and depression that impact many adults living with ADHD.
