Dr. Bucina (she/her) is a licensed psychologist offering evidence-based individual and group therapies and psychological evaluations for adults. Dr. Bucina specializes in treating adult men with complex trauma and PTSD. She also specializes in group therapy for trauma and PTSD for men, women, and nonbinary individuals. Dr. Bucina believes trauma impacts everyone differently and has extensive experience treating the effects of trauma, such as depression, anger and aggression, substance use, relationship conflict, and sex and intimacy concerns.
Dr. Bucina holds various certifications in gold-standard trauma-focused treatments, such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and draws from several evidence-based treatments to best meet the unique needs of her clients. Her aim is creating a secure and safe working relationship from which she and her clients can explore what causes their problems and keeps them feeling stuck. She believes that truly effective trauma treatment is collaborative and individualized, with an emphasis on culturally sensitive and strengths-based care. As trauma is often a whole-body experience, Dr. Bucina values a holistic approach that also integrates body-focused and emotions-focused strategies for healing.
Dr. Bucina graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Criminology from Florida State University before completing her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology at Pacific University. While completing her education, Dr. Bucina volunteered at a crisis hotline, emergency mental health center, and supported living home for individuals with traumatic brain injuries. She completed a predoctoral internship in upstate New York where she offered therapy, evaluation, and clinical consultation within a prison-based treatment program for individuals who committed sex offenses as well as a psychiatric hospital for individuals civilly confined for sex offenses. Dr. Bucina began her postdoctoral training in that program before ultimately returning to Oregon to complete her residency at a minimum-security prison. She has wide-ranging training and experience across various settings such as community mental health clinics, private practice, residential treatment, substance use treatment, and several prisons and hospitals. Dr. Bucina also currently supervises doctorate-level psychology students and is the Director of Clinical Training at Forest Psychological Clinic where students are actively involved in program development, group therapy, and psychological evaluation. She believes her broad and diverse training experiences greatly benefit her clinical practice.
In her free time, Dr. Bucina is an avid reader and amateur vegan chef. She loves spending time outdoors, seeing live music, and tending to her houseplant collection.
