Our evaluation service model allows for same day turn around on nearly all evaluations. Below is an explanation on how your clinician can efficiently provide you clear answers on your and/or your child/teen’s issues, within such a short amount of time. On our first contact via phone consult, usually 15 minutes, the clinician will gather information to determine several issues:
Reason for evaluation.
Psychological measurements that will be required for the assessment, and
Any collateral sources needed to aid in of the assessment (teachers, care providers, other medical providers).
Once this information is gathered, and your clinician determines that an evaluation is needed, then they will take your contact information and schedule a date. (Please note, that besides Kaiser and Pacific Source, our providers are out of network. Thus, this is an out-of-pocket expense. More information can be found under Financial Policies and Assessment Fees).
Following this consultation, your clinician will send you several documents (Notice of Practices, Clinic Policies, Releases of Information), along with several measurements they have chosen for you to complete prior to the appointment. On the day of the scheduled appointment all other pre-selected measurements will be administered, and a comprehensive clinical interview will be given.
After all this information is synthesized: measurements sent to you, diagnostic tools used the day of your assessment, collateral information gathered from other providers and/or teachers in your life or your child/teen's life, and an extensive history; feedback will be given. Your feedback will be delivered in clear concise language that you can understand along with resources and a path forward for you or your child. Again, at Forest Psychological Clinic our clinicians strive to provide feedback on the same day of your appointment.
*Please note, if in the unlikely circumstance your clinician cannot complete the evaluation in the same day, there is complexity in your case, we need more information from a collateral source, or for an unforeseen difficulty in testing - then any incomplete testing and feedback will be rescheduled as soon as possible, at no extra cost to you.

A psychological evaluation includes a combination of psychological testing, clinical interviews, and behavioral observations to assess mental health conditions. The assessment process typically evaluates cognitive abilities, emotional well-being, and possible mental health issues through standardized psychological assessments. This thorough testing and evaluation helps ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment planning, providing access to quality mental health services.
Psychological testing may be recommended when a provider needs more information than a conversation or observation alone can provide. These evaluations often include tools like the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, behavioral assessment measures, and a review of medical records to gain a clearer picture of the individual’s challenges. By combining observations, interviews, and test results, providers can better understand both emotional concerns and physical symptoms that might be contributing to overall well-being.
Clinicians who offer psychological testing also focus on understanding psychological testing as a process — ensuring clients know how the information is used to guide diagnosis, treatment planning, and long-term care. This comprehensive approach helps create tailored recommendations that address the whole person, not just their immediate symptoms.
To get someone evaluated, you should consult a mental health provider who specializes in psychological testing. These evaluations may involve a combination of medical tests, standardized tests, and clinical tools designed to measure cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. The psychological testing process often includes referrals from a doctor, therapist, or school system if concerns arise about mental health symptoms or broader mental health conditions.
In some cases, a more detailed neuropsychological assessment may be recommended to examine brain function, memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. This level of evaluation is especially important when symptoms point to learning difficulties, developmental disorders, or neurological concerns. Seeking quality mental health services ensures the individual receives a thorough, evidence-based assessment tailored to their specific needs, allowing for an accurate understanding and the most effective treatment plan.
A thorough psychological evaluation often begins with an initial consultation where concerns are discussed and background information is gathered. From there, clinicians may recommend neuropsychological tests, personality assessment, or other formal tests to explore areas such as intellectual functioning, behavior, and emotional health. Careful test administration and the use of norm referenced tests ensure results are reliable and comparable to broader populations. In some cases, a physical exam and review of medical history are also included to rule out underlying conditions. These steps are essential for identifying learning disabilities or a specific learning disorder, ultimately supporting a proper diagnosis and guiding the best course of treatment.
Yes, a psychological evaluation can assess for autism spectrum disorder using specialized psychological testing tools designed to measure social communication skills, behavioral patterns, and cognitive functioning. As part of the assessment process, professionals use standardized psychological assessments to differentiate autism spectrum disorder from other mental health disorders. This testing and evaluation help ensure an accurate diagnosis and appropriate support.
A psychosocial evaluation is a type of psychological assessment that examines an individual’s emotional, social, and behavioral functioning in relation to their mental disorders and overall well-being. The process often integrates psychological testing, intelligence tests, and other standardized measures alongside clinical diagnostic interviews and structured clinical interviews. These tools provide professionals with deeper insight into both mental health and physical health, ensuring that no contributing factors are overlooked.
In addition to evaluating personal and environmental influences, clinicians draw on scientific research to interpret results and guide effective recommendations. In many cases, psychological evaluations serve as the foundation for developing tailored treatment plans, whether that involves therapy, medical support, or community resources. By combining multiple methods of assessment, providers can deliver a more accurate picture of an individual’s strengths and challenges, helping them access quality care and achieve better long-term outcomes.
