Paul Walsh

Paul Walsh is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who provides therapy for children, teens, adults, and families at Forest Psychological Clinic in Lake Oswego, Oregon. With more than seventeen years of experience in community mental health, integrated healthcare, and educational settings, Paul brings a warm, humanistic, and strength-based approach to those navigating autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation challenges, and major life transitions.
Before becoming a therapist, Paul worked directly with autistic adults and supported students with special needs as a classroom aide. These early experiences shaped his deep respect for neurodivergence and continue to guide his work with clients across the lifespan. His clinical background includes roles at Kaiser Permanente, LifeStance Health, Trillium Family Services, Catholic Charities, and Central City Concern, where he supported diverse populations with varying emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs. These experiences taught him the value of collaboration, continuity of care, and responsiveness to cultural and individual differences.
For children and teens, Paul often uses creative and experiential tools to support emotional regulation, communication, identity development, school adjustment, and peer relationships. He regularly incorporates parent collaboration and family sessions to deepen understanding, reduce conflict, and promote consistent progress at home and in school settings.

Paul’s approach is collaborative and empowering. He partners closely with parents and caregivers to create a shared understanding of each child’s strengths and needs, providing clear strategies that families can use between sessions. He frequently integrates parent consultation and family sessions to strengthen connection, reduce conflict, and build skills that extend beyond the therapy room.
For adults, Paul offers an affirming space to explore anxiety, burnout, relationships, sensory needs, attention patterns, and life transitions. Many adults who work with him are neurodivergent or may be learning about neurodiversity for the first time. Paul helps clients build self-understanding, confidence, and emotional balance while supporting meaningful relationships and personal goals.
Paul works with clients who feel misunderstood, anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure how to express themselves. His approach is grounded in curiosity, compassion, and the belief that individuals possess an innate capacity for growth. He thinks of therapy as a collaborative exploration where clients uncover insight, strengthen emotional awareness, and build practical skills for daily life. He draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, mindfulness, and play-informed methods, tailoring each session to the client’s developmental stage, goals, and strengths.
Paul’s clinical work is informed by his commitment to a holistic understanding of each person. He considers sensory profiles, family dynamics, cultural background, learning styles, and environmental stressors, helping clients and families move toward clarity, connection, and long-term well-being. Whether guiding a young child through frustration tolerance, helping a teen build confidence and communication skills, or supporting an adult through burnout or relationship challenges, Paul offers steady, collaborative care that honors individuality.
Paul views neurodiversity as a natural and valuable part of human experience. His goal is not to change differences, but to support skill development, communication, emotional awareness, and self-acceptance so clients can thrive in ways that fit their strengths, identities, and needs. His work is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and grounded in respect for each client’s lived experience.
He is trained in trauma-informed and multicultural counseling, integrating cultural humility and awareness into his practice. Whether helping a preschooler navigate sensory sensitivities or guiding a teen through the complexities of identity, Paul approaches every client with empathy, patience, and respect for their individuality.
Personal Interests
Outside of the therapy room, Paul enjoys playing music and basketball, spending time with his family and friends, exploring the Pacific Northwest, and relaxing with his dog. His personal interests and multicultural experiences inform a grounded, authentic approach to therapy that emphasizes connection, compassion, and integrity.
