Paul Walsh

Child, Adolescent, and Family Therapist | Autism and ADHD Specialist

Currently accepting new clients beginning December 2025.

Paul Walsh is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing child, adolescent, and family therapy at Forest Psychological Clinic in Lake Oswego, Oregon. He specializes in helping children and teens, ages 3 through 18, navigate emotional, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental challenges such as autism, ADHD, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, and executive functioning struggles.

With more than fifteen years of clinical experience across medical, school-based, and community mental-health settings, Paul brings a compassionate and family-centered approach to every session. He has served in a variety of roles, including therapist, care coordinator, and behavioral health consultant, within respected organizations such as Kaiser Permanente, LifeStance Health, Trillium Family Services, and Catholic Charities. His diverse experience allows him to meet families where they are, tailoring therapy to each child’s developmental stage, strengths, and unique way of experiencing the world.

Specialized Experience with Children, Teens, and Families

Paul has devoted his career to supporting neurodivergent youth and their families. His practice centers on understanding the whole child—including emotional world, sensory profile, family dynamics, and school environment—to foster long-term growth and confidence. He works with children as young as three through adolescence, addressing a wide range of concerns:

  • Autism and ADHD

  • Anxiety and mood concerns

  • Sensory sensitivities and overstimulation

  • Emotional regulation and frustration tolerance

  • Executive functioning and behavioral challenges

  • Family communication and relationship difficulties

  • School adjustment and peer relationships

Paul’s approach is collaborative and empowering. He partners closely with parents and caregivers to create a shared understanding of each child’s strengths and needs, providing clear strategies that families can use between sessions. He frequently integrates parent consultation and family sessions to strengthen connection, reduce conflict, and build skills that

extend beyond the therapy room.

Therapeutic Approach

Paul’s therapeutic work is child-centered, strength-based, and deeply compassionate. Drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Play-Informed Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and mindfulness-based emotional regulation, he creates a safe, encouraging space for kids and teens to express themselves authentically.

Sessions are tailored to the child’s developmental stage, often using creative, playful, or visual tools to make therapy engaging and meaningful. Paul views therapy as a collaborative exploration of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, empowering children to understand themselves while equipping parents with practical tools to support progress at home and school.

He also incorporates neurodiversity-affirming principles, helping clients and families move away from deficit-based models and instead recognize that differences in attention, communication, and sensory processing are valuable parts of human diversity. His calm, attuned presence helps even anxious or reluctant children feel understood and accepted.

Commitment to Neurodiversity and Inclusion

Paul’s work is rooted in the belief that neurodivergence is not a flaw but a form of diversity that deserves respect, curiosity, and support. He has extensive experience working with children and families from varied cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, ensuring that therapy is sensitive to each client’s identity and lived experience.

He is trained in trauma-informed and multicultural counseling, integrating cultural humility and awareness into his practice. Whether helping a preschooler navigate sensory sensitivities or guiding a teen through the complexities of identity, Paul approaches every client with empathy, patience, and respect for their individuality.

Experience Across Systems of Care

Paul’s clinical background spans private practice, school, hospital, and

community settings. At Kaiser Permanente, he provided short-term behavioral interventions and ADHD screenings in a fast-paced primary care environment, collaborating with physicians and psychiatrists to ensure integrated care.

At LifeStance Health, he provided long-term individual and family therapy for clients across the lifespan, with a focus on children and teens managing ADHD, anxiety, and mood concerns. His earlier work at Trillium Family Services and Central City Concern reinforced his commitment to accessible, wraparound mental-health care, supporting not only individual growth but whole-family wellness.

This broad background allows Paul to adapt his interventions to meet the needs of each client, from brief skills-based therapy to ongoing relational support.

Personal Interests

Outside of his clinical work, Paul enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking Oregon’s scenic trails, and exploring the Pacific Northwest with his family. He values community engagement and has long been involved in outreach programs that promote mental-health awareness and access to care for underserved populations.

Paul’s multicultural experiences, shaped by life and work in both Oregon and California, inform his perspective that resilience grows through connection, compassion, and understanding across diverse communities.
