Dr. Karly Matson, PsyD
Dr. Karly Matson is a licensed clinical psychologist (Oregon #3536) who provides comprehensive psychological evaluations for children, teens, and adults throughout the Portland metropolitan area. At Forest Psychological Clinic, she specializes in autism evaluations for adults, particularly females and AFAB (assigned female at birth) individuals and offers a deeply neurodiversity-affirming approach that centers each client’s unique history, perspective, and lived experience. While her current focus includes a growing number of adult and female autism assessments, Dr. Matson also has a strong passion for working with children and adolescents, drawing on years of experience providing developmental and psychological evaluations for younger clients. She brings this same care and insight to every stage of testing, helping individuals and families better understand themselves and thrive across the lifespan.
With extensive experience across medical, academic, and private practice settings, Dr. Matson is passionate about helping individuals and families gain clarity, validation, and direction through the evaluation process. Her background includes work at the Children’s Program, the NW ADHD Treatment Center, and Providence Children’s Development Institute, where she conducted hundreds of developmental and neuropsychological assessments for ADHD, autism, intellectual, and learning differences. She also trained with Dr. Laura Edwards-Leeper on the Transgender Youth Assessment Team at Legacy Medical Center, providing gender-affirming evaluations and support for transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse youth and families.
At Forest Psychological Clinic, Dr. Matson conducts comprehensive, one-day evaluations that integrate standardized assessment tools, clinical interviews, and client perspectives into clear and meaningful results. She utilizes measures such as the WISC-V, WAIS-V, WIAT-IV, ADOS-2, ADI-R, CPT-3, BASC-3, Vineland-3, and BRIEF-2 to provide precise and holistic diagnostic understanding. Each assessment includes a same-day or next-week feedback session designed to ensure that clients leave with a thorough understanding of their results and practical recommendations that reflect their real-life needs and strengths.
Dr. Matson also offers diagnostic consultations to help individuals understand the testing process and determine whether an evaluation is appropriate, as well as post-diagnostic follow-ups for continued support weeks, months, or even years later. Her goal is for every client to feel heard, seen, and understood; and to walk away from the evaluation process with not just answers, but a sense of empowerment and self-understanding.
Dr. Matson provides in-person evaluations for individuals as young as 18 months through adulthood. Her specialties include:
- Autism Evaluations (children, teens, and adults)
- ADHD Testing (youth and adults)
- Learning Disorder Evaluations
Her work is firmly neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based, and collaborative. She tailors each report to speak directly to the client’s experiences and goals; making the findings understandable, practical, and validating. Outside of her work at Forest Psychological Clinic, Dr. Matson enjoys spending time outdoors and exploring Oregon’s natural beauty. She loves nature, values quiet moments with her family, and adores her beloved cats, whose playful personalities keep life light and full of joy.
