Jocelyn Dallis

Clinical Counseling Practicum Intern

Jocelyn Dallis

Teen, Adolescent, and Young Adult Therapy | Humanistic and Neurodiversity-Affirming Care

Jocelyn Dallis is a Clinical Counseling Practicum Intern at Forest Psychological Clinic who provides therapy for adolescents, teens, young adults, and some children in Lake Oswego and

the greater Portland metro area.

She has a particular passion for working with teenagers and young adults as they navigate identity, relationships, emotional challenges, school stress, growing independence, and the transition into adulthood.

Jocelyn brings warmth, curiosity, and a genuine desire to understand each person she works with.

She is interested in clients as whole people, rather than reducing them to a diagnosis, behavior, or list of symptoms. Her goal is to create a space where young people feel comfortable being honest about what they are experiencing, including the parts of themselves they may not feel safe sharing elsewhere.

Her work is humanistic, strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming, and LGBTQ+ affirming. Jocelyn believes meaningful therapy begins with connection. She takes time to understand how each client experiences the world, what matters to them, what they are struggling with, and what they hope will change.

Jocelyn especially enjoys working with teenagers. Adolescence can be an exciting period of growth, but it can also bring increased pressure, uncertainty, conflict, and emotional intensity. Teens may be trying to understand who they are while balancing academic expectations, friendships, family relationships, social media, changing responsibilities, and concerns about the future.

Jocelyn offers teens a supportive place where they can talk openly without feeling judged, lectured, or talked down to. Her conversational and collaborative style helps young people feel respected and involved in their own therapy. Rather than telling clients who they should become, she helps them better understand themselves, recognize their strengths, and develop skills that support the life they want to build.

Specialties

She may support teens and young adults experiencing concerns such as:

  • Anxiety, stress, or persistent worry

  • Depression, low motivation, or feeling disconnected

  • Emotional regulation difficulties

  • School pressure and academic stress

  • Friendship or peer relationship challenges

  • Family conflict and communication difficulties

  • Low self-esteem or uncertainty about identity

  • Autism, ADHD, or other forms of neurodivergence

  • Major life changes and transitions into adulthood

Jocelyn recognizes that teens often need a balance of independence and support. She works to build a trusting therapeutic relationship while collaborating with parents or caregivers when appropriate and helpful. Her goal is to support communication and progress without taking

away the young person’s voice, privacy, or growing sense of autonomy.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy

Jocely is passionate about working with neurodivergent clients, including autistic individuals and people with ADHD. She understands that neurodivergence can influence communication, emotional regulation, executive functioning, sensory experiences, relationships, identity, and the demands of school or work.

Her approach does not focus on making neurodivergent clients appear more typical. Instead, she helps clients understand how their minds work, identify the environments and strategies that support them, and develop greater self-awareness and self-acceptance.

For some teens and young adults, therapy may involve understanding why certain situations feel overwhelming, recognizing early signs of burnout, communicating needs more effectively, or finding realistic ways to manage executive functioning challenges. For others, it may involve

processing a recent diagnosis, exploring the effects of masking, or learning how neurodivergence connects with identity, relationships, and daily life.

Jocelyn approaches these conversations with openness, respect, and a desire to understand each client’s individual experience.

Therapeutic Approach

Jocelyn’s therapeutic style is primarily humanistic and relational. She believes clients are more likely to grow when they feel genuinely seen, accepted, and understood. She brings curiosity, compassion, and authenticity into the therapy room while helping clients identify practical ways to manage challenges in everyday life.

Her work also incorporates principles and strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Depending on the client’s needs, therapy may include strengthening emotional awareness, identifying patterns between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, practicing mindfulness, improving communication, building distress-tolerance skills, and developing healthier ways to cope with intense emotions.

Jocelyn does not expect the same approach to work for every client. She adapts sessions to each person’s age, personality, communication style, interests, strengths, and goals. Therapy may be reflective and conversational, skill-focused and practical, or a combination of both.

She is committed to providing an inclusive and affirming environment for clients of different backgrounds, identities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Her goal is for each person to feel welcomed, respected, and able to speak openly about their experiences.

Education and Supervision

Jocelyn is completing her Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling through Adams State University. At Forest Psychological Clinic, she works under the direct supervision of Paul Walsh, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with more than seventeen years of experience working with

children, adolescents, adults, and families.

This supervision provides Jocelyn with ongoing clinical guidance, consultation, and support as she develops her therapeutic practice. She also works within Forest Psychological Clinic’s collaborative team of psychologists, therapists, practicum students, and psychiatric providers.

Personal Interests

Outside of her clinical work, Jocelyn loves animals, spending time outdoors, and exploring film and storytelling. Her appreciation for different perspectives and stories reflects the curiosity she

brings to therapy. She is genuinely interested in learning who her clients are, how they understand their experiences, and what helps them feel most like themselves.

Jocelyn brings a warm, approachable presence to her work with teens and young adults. She hopes each client leaves therapy feeling better understood, more confident in who they are, and more equipped to navigate the challenges ahead.

Insurance and Scheduling

Jocelyn is able to accept Kaiser Permanente, Regence and BlueCross BlueShield plans, PacificSource, and ComPsych. She is not currently able to accept Moda Health or Providence Health Plan.

Insurance participation and benefits may vary depending on the individual plan and service type. Clients and families are encouraged to contact Forest Psychological Clinic or their insurance provider to confirm coverage before scheduling.
