Hayden Jones is a Doctoral Psychology Intern at Forest Psychological Clinic who provides comprehensive psychological evaluations and therapy under the direct supervision of Dr. James Thatcher, PsyD, Licensed Psychologist (Oregon PSY #3386).
Hayden works with children, teens, and adults seeking greater clarity about autism, ADHD, learning differences, intellectual functioning, emotional concerns, and other psychological or
neurodevelopmental conditions.
Energetic, thoughtful, and quick-thinking, he has a natural ability to help clients feel comfortable and engaged from the beginning.
Hayden is especially skilled at connecting with children and teenagers. He uses curiosity, flexibility, and an appropriate sense of humor to make evaluation and therapy feel less intimidating. His goal is to create an environment where clients feel respected, understood, and comfortable participating as themselves.
At Forest Psychological Clinic, Hayden participates in comprehensive psychological evaluations for children, teens, and adults throughout Lake Oswego, Portland, and the surrounding Portland metropolitan area.
Depending on the referral question, an evaluation may explore:
Autism spectrum disorder
ADHD and executive functioning
Learning disorders
Intellectual disability
Cognitive strengths and weaknesses
Anxiety, depression, and emotional functioning
Behavioral concerns
Personality and psychological functioning
Complex or overlapping diagnostic presentations
Hayden approaches psychological assessment as a collaborative process. He believes an evaluation should provide more than a diagnostic label. It should help clients and families understand how a person thinks, learns, communicates, manages emotions, and experiences the world.
For children and teens, an evaluation may help families better understand developmental, academic, behavioral, social, or emotional concerns. Hayden’s active and approachable style is particularly helpful for younger clients who may feel nervous about testing, become restless
during longer appointments, or need a flexible approach to remain engaged.
For adults seeking an autism or ADHD evaluation, the process may provide greater clarity about longstanding experiences that were previously misunderstood, overlooked, or attributed to other conditions. Hayden listens carefully to each client’s perspective while considering
developmental history, current concerns, daily functioning, relationships, strengths, and support needs.
His goal is to help clients leave the evaluation process with a clearer and more compassionate understanding of themselves, along with practical recommendations that can support everyday life.
Hayden is completing advanced doctoral training in psychological assessment. As part of his internship, he participates in clinical interviews, developmental history gathering, psychological testing, scoring, interpretation, report writing, and feedback sessions.
His responsibilities increase gradually based on his training, demonstrated skills, and readiness. Throughout every stage of the evaluation process, Hayden works under the direct supervision of
Dr. Thatcher.
Dr. Thatcher reviews the clinical findings, oversees diagnostic decisions, and provides professional review and sign-off on every final report. This collaborative training model allows clients and families to benefit from Hayden’s focused attention and developing assessment expertise while also receiving oversight from a licensed psychologist with extensive experience evaluating autism, ADHD, learning disorders, intellectual disabilities, and complex psychological presentations.
In addition to psychological evaluations, Hayden maintains a small therapy caseload serving children, teens, young adults, and adults.
His therapeutic style is warm, active, collaborative, and personable. Hayden works to make therapy feel like a genuine conversation rather than a formal or impersonal clinical experience.
His energy, humor, and ability to think on his feet can be especially helpful for children and teenagers who may be hesitant about therapy, struggle to remain engaged, or feel unsure how to describe what they are experiencing.
Hayden may support clients navigating concerns such as:
Autism or ADHD
Anxiety, worry, or stress
Depression or low motivation
Emotional regulation difficulties
School pressure and academic challenges
Social or relationship concerns
Self-esteem and identity development
Adjustment to changes or transitions
Health-related stress
Family or communication difficulties
Hayden adapts therapy to each client’s age, communication style, personality, strengths, and goals. Some clients may benefit from practical strategies, structured skill development, and help breaking overwhelming concerns into manageable steps. Others may need space to better understand their emotions, relationships, identity, or difficult life experiences.
He aims to balance acceptance with meaningful growth, helping clients feel understood while developing greater confidence, self-awareness, and practical ways to navigate daily life.
Hayden’s work is neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based, and individualized. He understands that autism and ADHD can influence communication, attention, sensory experiences, emotional regulation, executive functioning, learning, relationships, and the ability to manage everyday demands.
He does not approach evaluation or therapy with the expectation that neurodivergent clients should hide their differences or appear more typical. Instead, Hayden works to understand how each person experiences the world and identify accommodations, strategies, environmental changes, and supports that fit their actual needs.
Hayden recognizes that clients may communicate differently, need movement or breaks, become anxious in unfamiliar settings, or require a more creative approach to participation. He adjusts his communication and pacing whenever possible while still gathering the detailed information needed for a thoughtful and meaningful evaluation.
His goal is to help clients better understand both their strengths and challenges without reducing them to a diagnosis. He strives to create an experience in which clients feel taken seriously, respected, and supported in identifying what helps them function well.
Hayden is completing his Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology at Pacific University, where he is part of the Health Psychology Emphasis. His graduate training has included clinical interviewing, individual therapy, cognitive and personality assessment, interpretation of psychological measures, and integration of assessment findings into written reports.
Before joining Forest Psychological Clinic, Hayden provided therapy and assessment services through the Pacific Psychology and Comprehensive Health Clinic. His experience includes conducting clinical intakes, providing individual therapy, administering cognitive and personality
measures, and working with adults presenting with a wide range of mental health concerns.
Hayden also spent several years coaching tennis to children between the ages of five and thirteen. Coaching strengthened his ability to connect with younger children, adjust his communication style, maintain structure, respond quickly when something is not working, and encourage persistence without creating unnecessary pressure.
These skills continue to shape his clinical work, particularly when working with children and teens who benefit from an active, encouraging, and flexible approach.
Outside of his clinical and academic work, Hayden enjoys tennis, athletics, and spending time outdoors. His enthusiasm for sports reflects many of the qualities he brings to his work, including energy, adaptability, persistence, and an ability to build connection through shared interests.
Hayden is able to accept Kaiser Permanente, Moda Health, Regence and BlueCross BlueShield plans, PacificSource, and ComPsych. Insurance participation and benefits may vary depending on the individual plan and service type. Clients and families are encouraged to contact Forest Psychological Clinic or their insurance provider to confirm coverage before scheduling an evaluation or therapy appointment.
